Pergeseran Paradigma Kafa’ah dalam Pernikahan Generasi Millenial Muslim Modern (Studi Kasus pada Lembaga Pendidikan Tinggi di Kota Padangsidimpuan
Abstract
Equality between husband and wife in marriage is the basis for the integrity of a household. After marriage, there is a lack of kafa'ah between husband and wife, especially in terms of income and financial capability. This study aims to explain the kafa'ah between husband and wife after marriage in the current generation of Muslim millennials, which often leads to separation and even divorce. This study is a qualitative, analytical, and descriptive study to clearly describe the kafa'ah of husband and wife after marriage, focusing on the kafa'ah of hirfah and mal as causes of life's needs that often lead to disharmony between the two. The data collection technique used in-depth interviews with eight family members who are lecturers at universities. After the data was collected, it was analyzed using data triangulation, consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and analysis. The results show that kafa'ah in marriage among Muslim millennials falls into two categories: kafa'ah of hirfah and mal. Kafa'ah Al-hirfah (income) is in the form of the wife's higher education than the husband, the wife's career (job) is more advanced than the husband's, and the wife's knowledge is broader than the husband's. Furthermore, regarding kafa'ah Al-mal (income), the wife's income is greater than the husband's, the wife works as the family's primary breadwinner, and the husband has no fixed income. These two kafa'ah do not cause discord in their family because, according to sharia, they are not grounds for annulment of the marriage, as they were agreed upon before and after marriage. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that kafa'ah after marriage is intended to maintain family harmony.
