Author Guidelines
Author Guidelines “El-Thawalib Journal” uses this checklist to perform a final check on your submission before you submit it to the journal for review. Please check the relevant section of this Guidelines for Authors in Publication Ethics for more details. Publishing your paper with El-Thawalib Journal means that the author or authors retain the copyright to the paper. Manuscripts written in English are typed using MS Word processing program, Cambria font, 1.15 spacing, and A4 paper (210 x 297 mm). Manuscript frame size: left 4.0 cm, right 3.0 cm, top 4.0 cm, bottom 3.0 cm.
El-Thawalib Journal utilizes the CC-BY-SA license as the optimal license, which permits use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided that the contributions are correctly cited, the use is non-commercial, and no modifications or adaptations are made. El-Thawalib Journal is granted an exclusive non-commercial reuse license by the author, but the author may upload the work to a website, distribute it to colleagues, give it to students, use it in theses, etc., as long as the use is not intended for commercial gain or personal financial gain and no modification or adaptation is made. Refer to the Copyright Notice for additional information.
Manuscript Submission Overview
Publication Type
El-Thawalib Journal has a manuscript length limit (4,000–6,000 words), with the requirement that the text is concise and comprehensive. Full experimental details must be provided so that the results can be reproduced. El-Thawalib Journal requires authors to publish all experimental controls and provide complete data sets if possible (see guidelines on Supplementary Material and references to unpublished data).
El-Thawalib Journal publishes only original articles. We do not accept manuscripts of other types, such as Book Reviews, Review Essays, etc. This journal considers all original articles, provided that the work presents a strong scientific analysis, offers significant new insights, and emphasizes the study of Islamic Legal thought (see Focus and Scope). This journal considers all original articles provided that the work reports a strong scientific experiment and provides a significant amount of new information. Authors should not unnecessarily divide their work into several related manuscripts. However, brief communications of preliminary yet significant results will be considered. The quality and impact of the research will be considered during peer review. Manuscripts submitted to Jurnal El-Thawalib must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication in another journal.
Submission Process
Manuscripts for Jurnal El-Thawalib must be submitted online through the journal’s open system. The submitting author, who is usually the corresponding author, is responsible for the manuscript throughout the submission and peer review process. The submitting author must ensure that all eligible co-authors are included in the author list (see criteria for authorship eligibility) and that all of them have read and agreed to the submitted version of the manuscript. To submit your manuscript, register and log in to the submission website. Once you have registered, click here to open the submission form for Jurnal El-Thawalib. The corresponding author can view the manuscript details in the submission system using the email address provided during manuscript submission.
Accepted File Formats
Authors should use Microsoft Word templates to prepare their manuscripts. Using template files will shorten the time to complete manuscript editing and publication of accepted manuscripts. If you encounter any issues, please get in touch with the Editorial Office at elthawalib@gmail.com. Accepted file formats are:
- Microsoft Word: Manuscripts prepared in Microsoft Word must be converted into a single file before submission. When preparing a manuscript in Microsoft Word, the El-Thawalib Journal Microsoft Word template file should be used. Please insert your graphics (schemas, figures, etc.) in the main text after their first citation paragraph. All text and metadata identifying the author must be removed before submission.
- Supplementary files: These can be in any format, but we recommend using a standard, non-proprietary format if possible (see Supplementary files below for more details).
Disclaimer: Usage of these templates is exclusively intended for submission to the journal for peer-review, and strictly limited to this purpose and it cannot be used for posting online on preprint servers or other websites.
Submission Format
El-Thawalib Journal accepts all manuscripts in free format:
- We do not have strict format requirements, but all manuscripts must contain the following required sections: Author Information, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Discussion and Results, Conclusion, Figures and Tables with Captions, Author Contributions, Conflict of Interest, and other Ethics Statements. Check the Publication Ethics for Authors for more details.
- Your references must be in the Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (Full Note), using a referencing tool (Zotero or Mendeley) to create a consistent format. It is essential to include the author(s) name, journal or book title, article or chapter title (if necessary), year of publication, volume and issue (if appropriate), and page numbering. A DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number is optional but highly recommended. Zotero or Mendeley are recommended bibliographic software packages.
Cover Letter
A cover letter must be included with each manuscript submission. It should contain the full author names and affiliations, and title; you may append the complete version of your manuscript to the cover letter. It should also be concise and explain why the content of the paper is significant, placing the findings in the context of existing work and why it fits the scope of the journal. Confirm that neither the manuscript nor any parts of its content are currently under consideration or published in another journal. Please check the cover letter format.
Manuscript Preparation
General Considerations
- A research manuscript should consist of the following:
- Frontpage: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords
- Sections of the research manuscript: Introduction, Research Methods, Discussion and Results, Conclusion.
- Back page: Supplementary Material, Acknowledgements (optional), Author Contributions, Conflict of Interest, References.
- Acronyms/Abbreviations/Initialisms should be defined when they first appear in each of the three sections: abstract, main text, first figure, or table. When defined for the first time, the acronym/abbreviation/initialism should be added in parentheses after the written form.
- Transliteration: The Arabic transliteration system should be used consistently, except for citations using symbols. Please check our transliteration system.
- Guidelines and standards: The El-Thawalib Journal adheres to established standards and guidelines for specific types of research. Refer to the Technical Author Guidelines for additional information.
Front Matter
These sections must appear in the manuscript
- Title: The title of your manuscript should be concise, specific, and relevant. It should be at the top of the first page and aligned to the left.
- Authors and Affiliations: The first and last names of the authors should be included. Middle initials may be added. At least one author should be designated as the corresponding author, and their email address and other details should be included at the end of the affiliation section. Please review the criteria for authorship eligibility.
- Abstract: The abstract should be approximately 200 to 300 words maximum. The abstract should be one paragraph and should follow the structured abstract style, but without headings: 1) Background: Place the question addressed in a broad context and highlight the purpose of the study; 2) Methods: Briefly describe the primary methods or treatments applied; and 3) Results: Summarize the main findings of the article; The abstract should be an objective representation of the article: it should not contain results that are not presented and demonstrated in the main text and should not overstate the main conclusions.
- Keywords: Three to five relevant keywords should be added after the abstract. We recommend that the keywords be specific to the article but general enough within the same discipline.
Research Manuscript Sections
- Introduction: The introduction should provide a brief context for the research and highlight its significance. The introduction should define the purpose of the research and its significance, including the specific hypotheses being tested. The current state of the research field should be thoroughly reviewed, and key publications should be cited. Please highlight any controversial or divergent hypotheses as necessary. Finally, briefly state the primary purpose of the research and highlight the main conclusions. Make sure the introduction is easily understood by scientists working outside the topic of the paper. The introduction should also be described in sufficient detail to allow others to replicate and build on the published results. New methods and protocols should be described in detail, while established methods can be described briefly and cited appropriately. The methods should be written briefly, concisely, and clearly but sufficiently so that they can be replicated. This section describes the type of research, the research approach, data sources, data collection techniques, and analysis techniques. This is not a theory. In the case of using statistics, generally known formulas should not be listed. The researcher's specific criteria for collecting and analyzing the research data should be fully described, including the quality of the instruments, research materials, and data collection procedures.
- Discussion and Results: Provide a concise and precise description of the experimental results, their interpretation, and the conclusions that can be drawn from the experiment. The authors should discuss the results and how they can be interpreted in light of previous research and the working hypothesis. The findings and their implications should be discussed within the broadest possible context, and the study's limitations should be highlighted. Directions for future research may also be mentioned.
- Conclusion: The conclusion contains the answer to the research question or problem statement. The article's contribution to knowledge, limitations of the study, and suggestions for future research have not been stated. The conclusion should be written in narrative form, not in numerical/numbered/bullet form.
Back Matter
- Supplementary Materials: Describe any supplementary material published online alongside the manuscript (figure, tables, video, spreadsheets, etc.). Please indicate the name and title of each element as follows Figure S1: title, Table S1: title, etc. or follow suplementary guideline to further informations.
- Acknowledgments (optional): In this section you can acknowledge any support given which is not covered by the author contribution or funding sections. This may include administrative and technical support, or donations in kind (e.g., materials used for experiments).
- Author Contributions: Each author is expected to have made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; or the creation of new software used in the work; or have drafted the work or substantively revised it; AND has approved the submitted version (and version substantially edited by journal staff that involves the author’s contribution to the study); AND agrees to be personally accountable for the author’s own contributions and for ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work, even ones in which the author was not personally involved, are appropriately investigated, resolved, and documented in the literature.
For research articles with several authors, a short paragraph specifying their individual contributions must be provided. The following statements should be used "Conceptualization, X.X. and Y.Y.; Methodology, X.X.; Software, X.X.; Validation, X.X., Y.Y. and Z.Z.; Formal Analysis, X.X.; Investigation, X.X.; Resources, X.X.; Data Curation, X.X.; Writing – Original Draft Preparation, X.X.; Writing – Review & Editing, X.X.; Visualization, X.X.; Supervision, X.X.; Project Administration, X.X.; Funding Acquisition, Y.Y.”. For more background on CRediT, see here. "Authorship must include and be limited to those who have contributed substantially to the work. Please read the section concerning the criteria to qualify for authorship carefully".
- Data Availability Statement (optional): In this section, please provide details regarding where data supporting reported results can be found, including links to publicly archived datasets analyzed or generated during the study.
- Conflicts of Interest: Authors must identify and declare any personal circumstances or interest that may be perceived as influencing the representation or interpretation of reported research results. If there is no conflict of interest, please state "The authors declare no conflict of interest." Any role of the funding sponsors in the design of the study; in the collection, analyses or interpretation of data; in the writing of the manuscript, or in the decision to publish the results must be declared in this section. If there is no role, please state “The founding sponsors had no role in the design of the study; in the collection, analyses, or interpretation of data; in the writing of the manuscript, and in the decision to publish the results”. For more details please see Conflict of Interest.
- Important note: If you have any concerns that the provision of this information may compromise your anonymity dependent on the peer review policy of this journal outlined above, you can withhold this information until you submit your final accepted manuscript.
- References: A reference list is always arranged alphabetically. All sources are listed by the last names of the authors and listed individually at the end of the manuscript. We recommend preparing the references with a bibliography software package, such as Zotero or Mendeley to avoid typing mistakes and duplicated references. Your references must be in Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (Full Note). Citations and References in Supplementary files are permitted provided that they also appear in the main text and in the reference list. The Reference list should include the full title as recommended by the Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (Full Note) style guide.
Preparing Figures, Schemes, and Tables
- All Figures, Schemes and Tables should be inserted into the main text close to their first citation and must be numbered following their number of appearance (Figure 1, Scheme I, Figure 2, Scheme II, Table 1, etc.). All Figures, Schemes and Tables should have a short explanatory title and caption.
- File for Figures and Schemes must be provided during submission in a single zip archive and at a sufficiently high resolution (minimum 1000 pixels width/height, or a resolution of 300 dpi or higher).
- Common formats are accepted, however, TIFF, JPEG, EPS and PDF are preferred.
- All table columns should have an explanatory heading. To facilitate the copy-editing of larger tables, smaller fonts may be used, but no less than 8 pt. in size. Authors should use the Table option of Microsoft Word to create tables.
- Common figures and schemes formats are accepted, however, figures and schemes in color (RGB at 8-bit per channel) are preferred. There is no additional cost for publishing full color graphics.

El-Thawalib Journal Research Data Policy
El-Thawalib Journal is committed to supporting open scientific exchange and enabling our authors to achieve best practices in sharing and archiving research data. We encourage all authors of articles published in the El-Thawalib Journal to share their research data. Individual journal guidelines can be found in the Author Guidelines and technically on the Technical Author Guidelines page. Data-sharing policies concern the minimal data set that supports the main findings of a published study. The resulting data must be made publicly available and cited by the journal's guidelines.
El-Thawalib Journal's data policy is based on the TOP Guidelines, which describe citation standards, data transparency, analytical methods transparency (Code), research material transparency, design and analysis transparency, study pre-registration, analysis plan pre-registration, and replication policies. See the TOP Guidelines for more information.
If there are ethical, legal, or privacy concerns, data should not be shared. Authors should explain any limitations in the Data Availability Statement attached to the article (see backmatter instructions). Authors must ensure that the data shared is obtained with the consent of the participants regarding the use of confidential data.
Although the Data Availability Statement suggests indicating the data used by including links to publicly archived datasets analyzed or generated during the research, Jurnal El-Thawalib proves the existence of the data generated during the research with references without requiring the inclusion of links.
Below are suggested Data Availability Statements:
- If data is available in a publicly accessible CrossReff repository
