The Effect of the Use of Interactive Learning Media on the Learning Outcomes of Grade VIII Junior High School Students

Abstract


This research was motivated by student learning outcomes not being as expected. Students are less interested in studying mathematics because for them mathematics is a complicated, difficult, confusing, boring and even scary science. When studying mathematics, students are often sleepy, bored, playing alone and even have difficulty understanding the material presented by the teacher, which has an impact on students' mathematics learning outcomes. In this way, teachers must create active and fun learning by using a variety of learning media, one of which is interactive learning media. This interactive learning media can provide an attractive appearance to students and make students enthusiastic about the learning process. Learning using interactive learning media aims to provide a way for students to build intellectual skills, namely thinking skills. This research is a type of quantitative research using cluster random sampling. The data collection instrument in this research is a validated test. The experimental class samples were given special treatment, namely using interactive learning media and the control class were not given special treatment. Data analysis used the t test after the data met the normal and homogeneous distribution of the research results. Where in this research it can be seen from the results of the pretest that the learning outcomes of students in class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Angkola Timur are still in the poor category. Because there are still many students whose scores have not reached the KKM for the mathematics questions given. This situation exists in both the experimental class and the control class. After implementing interactive learning media, they have started to be able to solve mathematics problems with scores above the KKM. Meanwhile, in the control class, when learning using conventional media, students looked less enthusiastic and there were still many students who got scores below the KKM. From the pretest results it can be seen that there is a very significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. Where the difference in student learning outcomes in the control class is not much different or it could be said that the increase is very low between the pretest test results and the posttest test results. Meanwhile, in the experimental class, the increase in student learning outcomes was very significant between the pretest and posttest.
