Contribution of Learning Habits and Learning Motivation Towards Mathematics Learning Outcomes

Abstract


This study aims to analyze the contribution of learning habits and learning motivation to mathematics learning outcomes of junior high school students in Natal District, Mandailing Natal Regency. In particular, this study aims to determine the contribution of learning habits to mathematics learning outcomes, the contribution of learning motivation to mathematics learning outcomes, and the contribution of learning habits and learning motivation simultaneously to mathematics learning outcomes. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The research population is all grade VIII junior high school students in Natal District, Mandailing Natal Regency. The research sample amounted to 95 students who were selected using the proportional random sampling technique. Data on learning habits and learning motivation were collected through questionnaires that met the criteria for validity and reliability, while data on mathematics learning outcomes were obtained from students' semester test scores. Data analysis was carried out using Pearson's Product Moment correlation and multiple regression analysis to determine the contribution of each variable to mathematics learning outcomes. The results showed that learning habits contributed 37.9% to mathematics learning outcomes, while learning motivation contributed 45.2%. Simultaneously, learning habits and learning motivation contributed 48.4% to students' mathematics learning outcomes. These findings show that both variables have a positive and significant relationship with mathematics learning outcomes, with learning motivation contributing more than learning habits. This study concludes that learning habits and learning motivation are important factors that affect the mathematics learning outcomes of junior high school students in Natal District. Therefore, mathematics teachers and schools need to implement learning strategies that are able to foster effective learning habits and increase students' learning motivation to achieve more optimal mathematics learning outcomes.
