Abstract


The rise of modern shops or modern retail in the city of Sibolga raises problems for the income of tradisional traders in the city of Sibolga traders. Traditionally, there has been a change in income after the presence of modern stores or modern retail. The formulation of the problem in this study is what are the obstacles faced by traditional traders after the presence of modem shop and what is the impact caused by the presence of a modem Sibolga city on the income of traditional traders. What is the impact after the presence of a modem shop in the city of Sibolga.

The research is a qualitative research with data collection techniques, namely interviews, which were conducted with traditional traders, the Sibolga city industry and trade office and with modem shop employees. The interviews were conducted in a relaxed, uncomplicated friendly manner. The desired data in order to complete the writing in the research.

The results showed that the constrains experienced by traditional traders after the presence of modem shops were having difficulty competing, so that traditional traders had difficulty increasing their income. One of the contributing factors is the strategy implemented by modem shops is better at attracting consumer buying. Interest, for example discounts, bazars, and promotions as well as events. Sibolga city traders are able to earn IDR Rp. 8.000.000,./days, but after the arrival of the modem shop the income of the modem shop income of the traders drop to IDR Rp. 5. 000.000,./days.
