Correction and Retraction Policy
JIFTECH: Journal of Islamic Financial Technology
JIFTECH: Journal of Islamic Financial Technology (E-ISSN: 2829-1050) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, reliability, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes that correcting errors and addressing concerns about published research are essential responsibilities of ethical scholarly publishing.
This policy establishes procedures for handling corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern involving articles published in JIFTECH. All decisions are made through a fair and evidence-based editorial assessment, with due consideration for the interests of authors, readers, researchers, institutions, and the wider academic community.
1. Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that corrections and retractions are handled consistently, transparently, and responsibly, and that readers are informed of material changes affecting published research.
This policy applies to all articles published by JIFTECH, including articles in current and previous issues. It covers concerns relating to factual errors, research reliability, plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, ethical violations, authorship, and other matters that may affect the integrity of the scholarly record. It applies to research on Islamic financial technology, Islamic banking, fintech, digital financial services, blockchain, and related fields within the journal's scope.
2. Types of Publication Updates
Correction
A correction is published when an error in a published article requires amendment but does not invalidate the overall findings or conclusions.
Examples: incorrect author affiliations, typographical errors affecting meaning, inaccurate tables or figures, and other factual errors.
Retraction
A retraction is issued when the reliability or integrity of a published article is seriously compromised.
Possible grounds: fabricated or falsified data, plagiarism, serious errors that invalidate findings, unethical research, or other substantial breaches of publication ethics.
Expression of Concern
An expression of concern may be published when credible questions arise about an article and further investigation is necessary, but a definitive conclusion has not yet been reached.
The appropriate action depends on the nature, seriousness, and implications of the issue. Minor errors do not automatically require retraction, and a retraction is not issued solely because an author requests it. Every case requires an appropriate editorial assessment.
3. Procedures for Handling Corrections and Retractions
The editorial team follows the procedures below when an error, ethical concern, or other issue involving a published article is identified.
Identification of the Issue
The editorial team receives or identifies information concerning a possible error, ethical violation, or reliability issue. Reports may come from authors, readers, reviewers, institutions, or other relevant parties.
Initial Assessment and Verification
The Editor-in-Chief or an appropriately assigned editor reviews the available evidence, determines the nature of the concern, and requests clarification or supporting documentation when necessary.
Opportunity to Respond
Relevant authors and other parties are given a reasonable opportunity to respond to the concerns. When appropriate, the journal may consult the authors' affiliated institutions, research ethics committees, or independent experts.
Editorial Decision
Based on the evidence and responses, the Editor-in-Chief determines whether a correction, retraction, expression of concern, or other action is appropriate. Decisions and their supporting reasons are documented.
Preparation of the Notice
The editorial team prepares a clear, factual, and professionally worded notice identifying the original article, the type of action, the reason for the action, and its implications for the published record.
Publication and Linking
The Journal Manager publishes the notice as a separate, clearly labeled record and links it to the original article. The original article's landing page must also link to the notice.
Metadata and Article Status Updates
Where applicable, the journal updates article metadata, DOI registration records, PDF or XML files, and relevant indexing or publishing platforms. Retracted articles remain accessible for the scholarly record unless exceptional legal or other circumstances require otherwise.
Notification and Record Keeping
Where appropriate, the journal notifies authors, the publisher, relevant institutions, and indexing services. Evidence, correspondence, decisions, and publication dates are retained in the journal's records.
4. Information Required in a Notice
Each correction, retraction, or expression of concern should include the following information, as applicable.
| No. | Required Information | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Article Title | Full title of the original article. |
| 2 | Author(s) | Names of the original article's authors. |
| 3 | Publication Details | Journal name, volume, issue, page range or article number, and publication year. |
| 4 | DOI | DOI of the original article and, where applicable, the notice. |
| 5 | Type of Notice | Correction, Retraction, or Expression of Concern. |
| 6 | Reason and Explanation | A clear description of the error, concern, or grounds for retraction. |
| 7 | Publication Date | Date the notice was published. |
| 8 | Related Links | Links to the original article and related notices. |
| 9 | Editorial Statement | The journal's action and its implications for the scholarly record, including who is retracting the article where appropriate. |
5. Website Display and Publication Requirements
Notices must be publicly accessible without unnecessary restrictions.
Each notice must be clearly labeled and distinguishable from ordinary research articles.
The notice must link to the original article, and the article must link back to the notice.
The landing page and, where feasible, the full-text file must prominently display the retraction status.
DOI metadata and relevant publishing or indexing records should be updated where applicable.
The publication history must be preserved, and substantive changes must not be made silently.
Important: Preserving the Scholarly Record
Retracted articles should ordinarily remain accessible with a clear retraction notice or watermark on the article file. The article must not be silently deleted or presented as valid research. Exceptional circumstances, including legal requirements, may justify a different approach, which should be documented appropriately.
6. Roles and Responsibilities
| Position | Responsibilities |
|---|---|
| Editor-in-Chief | Evaluates evidence, ensures due process, and makes or authorizes the final editorial decision. |
| Editorial Board | Provides relevant academic expertise and supports impartial assessment when requested. |
| Journal Manager | Publishes notices, updates article pages, manages links, and maintains website records. |
| Publisher or Technical Team | Supports DOI metadata updates, technical corrections, and dissemination to relevant services. |
| Authors | Provide explanations, relevant records, and supporting evidence, and cooperate with the assessment process. |
7. Monitoring and Evaluation
The editorial team periodically reviews correction, retraction, and expression-of-concern records to ensure that notices are complete, accessible, properly linked, and consistent with the journal's publication ethics policy. Any identified deficiencies should be addressed promptly. Relevant records of investigations, editorial decisions, correspondence, and publication updates must be retained for accountability and future reference.
Policy Statement
JIFTECH is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record. When errors or concerns are identified in a published article, the editorial team assesses the available evidence and determines the appropriate action in accordance with this policy and recognized publication ethics guidance.
Corrections are issued when errors require amendment without invalidating the overall findings. Retractions are issued when the reliability or integrity of a publication is seriously compromised. Expressions of concern may be published when significant issues remain under investigation.
All notices are linked to the original article, and publication records and relevant metadata are updated where applicable. Editorial decisions are made fairly, transparently, and on the basis of documented evidence.
8. Reference Guidelines
In implementing this policy, JIFTECH takes into consideration recognized guidance and technical standards for publication ethics and scholarly metadata, including:
A correction or retraction must not be issued solely at an author's request without appropriate editorial assessment. Decisions must be based on documented evidence, procedural fairness, and the seriousness of the issue. Retraction notices should explain the reasons clearly and identify the party responsible for the retraction where appropriate.
Integrity. Transparency. Accountability.
