This statement defines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, the Editor-in-Chief, editors, reviewers, the editorial board, and the publisher.
JIFTECH's publication ethics policy is informed by the principles and best-practice guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The publisher and editorial team are committed to safeguarding the integrity of the publication process. Advertising, reprints, and other commercial activities must not influence editorial decisions. Where necessary, the journal will cooperate with other journals and publishers to address publication ethics concerns.
2. Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication
Publication in a peer-reviewed journal contributes to the development of reliable scholarly knowledge and reflects the quality of research conducted by authors and their institutions. Peer review supports the scientific process and helps ensure the credibility of published findings. JIFTECH therefore expects all parties involved in scholarly publishing to uphold integrity, fairness, transparency, confidentiality, and accountability.
3. Editorial Responsibilities
3.1 Publication Decisions
The Editor-in-Chief and editorial team are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be accepted for publication. Decisions must be based on the manuscript's scholarly quality, originality, validity, relevance to the journal's scope, and potential contribution to the field. Editorial decisions must follow the journal's policies and applicable legal requirements, including those concerning defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Editors may consult reviewers and other editorial advisers when making decisions.
3.2 Fair Play and Non-Discrimination
Editors must evaluate manuscripts objectively on the basis of their intellectual and scholarly merit, without discrimination based on an author's race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.
3.3 Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts. Information about a submission may only be shared with the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisers, the publisher, or other authorized parties when appropriate and necessary for the editorial process.
3.4 Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Editors must not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research or personal advantage without the author's express written consent. Editors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and, where necessary, withdraw from handling a manuscript to ensure an impartial editorial decision.
4. Duties of Editors
- Editors should develop and maintain expertise in the fields covered by the journal and contribute to its scholarly quality, reputation, and international visibility.
- Editors should familiarize themselves with and follow the relevant guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
- Editors must make publication decisions fairly, transparently, and consistently with the journal's editorial policies.
- Editors should ensure that manuscripts receive appropriate peer review and that reviewers are selected according to their relevant expertise.
- Editors should respond appropriately to allegations of misconduct, plagiarism, data fabrication, or other breaches of publication ethics.
5. Duties of Reviewers
5.1 Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists editors in making informed publication decisions. Constructive feedback also helps authors improve the clarity, accuracy, and scholarly quality of their manuscripts.
5.2 Promptness
Reviewers who feel unqualified to evaluate a manuscript or are unable to complete the review within the requested timeframe should promptly notify the editor and decline the invitation.
5.3 Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, reproduce, or discuss them with others unless authorized by the editor.
5.4 Standards of Objectivity
Reviews must be conducted objectively and professionally. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should provide clear, evidence-based comments and explain the reasoning behind their recommendations.
5.5 Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Claims, observations, or arguments previously reported should be supported by appropriate references. Reviewers should also inform the editor of substantial similarities or overlaps between the manuscript under review and other published works of which they are aware.
5.6 Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Information and ideas obtained through peer review must remain confidential and must not be used for personal or professional advantage. Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts when competitive, collaborative, financial, institutional, or other relationships could compromise their impartiality.
6. Duties of Authors
6.1 Reporting Standards
Authors reporting original research must present an accurate account of the work performed and an objective discussion of its significance. Data and findings must be represented accurately, and the manuscript must contain sufficient detail and references to support verification and, where applicable, replication. Fabricated, falsified, or knowingly inaccurate statements are unethical and unacceptable.
6.2 Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their submissions are original. Any use of the words, ideas, data, figures, tables, or other materials of others must be appropriately acknowledged and cited. Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable.
6.3 Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal. Manuscripts presenting substantially the same research should not be published in multiple journals without appropriate justification and transparent disclosure. Any related publication or overlapping submission must be disclosed to the editor.
6.4 Acknowledgment of Sources
Authors must properly acknowledge the work of others and cite publications that have significantly influenced the conception, methodology, analysis, or interpretation of the reported research.
6.5 Authorship of the Paper
Authorship must be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the study, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or development of the manuscript. Individuals who have made substantial contributions should be appropriately acknowledged or identified as contributors where they do not qualify for authorship. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all eligible co-authors are included, that no ineligible authors are listed, and that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the final manuscript and agreed to its submission.
6.6 Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial, professional, personal, or other conflicts of interest that could reasonably be perceived to influence the research or its interpretation. All sources of financial support for the research must be acknowledged in the manuscript.
6.7 Fundamental Errors in Published Works
If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor or publisher and cooperate in correcting the record. Depending on the nature and severity of the error, a correction, retraction, or other appropriate editorial action may be required.
7. Publisher's Commitment
The publisher, the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business at Universitas Islam Negeri Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan, supports the editorial team in protecting the integrity of the publication process. Editorial decisions must remain independent of commercial interests. The publisher and editors will take appropriate action when credible concerns arise regarding research integrity or publication misconduct.
8. Ethical Concerns and Allegations of Misconduct
Concerns regarding plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, authorship disputes, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other potential breaches of publication ethics should be reported to the journal's editorial team. All allegations will be assessed fairly and confidentially, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the journal's policies and relevant ethical guidance.
