Thariqah Ilmiah: Jurnal Ilmu-ilmu Kependidikan & Bahasa Arab implements a comprehensive policy on the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies. This policy aligns with the international standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and major global publishers like Elsevier. It aims to ensure transparency, integrity, and confidentiality among authors, reviewers, and editors.

1. For Authors

Overview & Scope of Use

The journal recognizes that AI tools (e.g., large language models, chatbots, and deep research tools) can help researchers improve language, clarity, and manuscript organization. However, these tools must only assist authors, never replace human critical thinking, critical analysis, or scientific evaluation. Authors are ultimately and fully accountable for the entire content of their work.

Author Obligations

When preparing a manuscript using AI tools, authors must:

• Verify Accuracy: Check all AI-generated text, data, and citations. AI tools can fabricate references or introduce subtle factual errors.
• Maintain Originality: Thoroughly edit and adapt all material to ensure the manuscript represents the author’s own authentic analysis, interpretation, and insights.
• Ensure Data Privacy: Verify the terms and conditions of the AI tools used. Authors must not input confidential research or personal data that might violate intellectual property or privacy rights.

Disclosure Requirement

Basic grammar, spelling, or punctuation checks do not require declaration. However, any substantial use of generative AI tools in manuscript preparation or the research process must be formally disclosed upon submission.

• Authors must include a separate AI Declaration Statement in their manuscript, specifying the name of the tool, its version, and the purpose of its use.
• If AI was used as part of the research method, it must be detailed reproducibly within the Methods section.

Authorship Restrictions

• No AI Authorship: AI tools cannot be listed or cited as an author or co-author.
• Authorship implies legal, ethical, and academic responsibilities that only humans can perform, including the capacity to approve the final draft and guarantee its empirical integrity.

Figures, Images, and Artwork

• Strict Prohibition: The use of generative AI to create, enhance, alter, remove, or obscure specific features within figures, images, or graphical abstracts is strictly prohibited.
• Allowed Adjustments: Standard modifications like adjusting brightness, contrast, or color balance are permitted, provided they do not hide or distort original information.
• Exceptions: AI-driven imaging approach is only permitted if it is a core part of the research design (e.g., computational analysis), which must be fully documented in the Methods section. The journal may request pre-AI adjusted raw images for verification.

2. For Reviewers

Confidentiality & Intellectual Property

Peer review is a strictly confidential process based on human expertise and trust.

• No AI Uploads: Reviewers are strictly prohibited from uploading a submitted manuscript, or any part of it, into generative AI tools. Doing so violates the authors' confidentiality, intellectual property rights, and data privacy regulations.
• Review Reports: Reviewers must not use AI tools to generate or draft peer-review evaluations. Furthermore, reviewers must not upload their final evaluation reports into AI tools, even solely for language or readability enhancement, to prevent leaking confidential article details into public AI datasets.
