Publication Ethics
Thariqah Ilmiah: Jurnal Ilmu-ilmu Kependidikan & Bahasa Arab is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published twice a year by the Department of Arabic Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, Universitas Islam Negeri Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan, Indonesia.
The journal publishes research articles and scholarly works related to education, Arabic language studies, and other relevant fields. The Editorial Board is committed to maintaining academic integrity, transparency, fairness, and accountability in every stage of the publication process, from manuscript submission and evaluation to publication and post-publication management.
This Publication Ethics Statement has been developed by the Editorial Board of Thariqah Ilmiah: Jurnal Ilmu-ilmu Kependidikan & Bahasa Arab as a guideline for all parties involved in scholarly publishing, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. This policy aims to ensure that all manuscripts are handled responsibly and that publication decisions are based on academic quality, originality, relevance, and ethical considerations.
The journal implements responsible publishing practices by preventing and addressing various forms of publication misconduct, including plagiarism, fabrication and falsification of data, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, and undisclosed conflicts of interest.
In developing this policy, the Editorial Board refers to internationally recognized principles of publication ethics, particularly the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). These references are adapted to the editorial procedures, scope, and management practices of the journal to ensure that the ethical guidelines represent the journal’s own commitment to responsible scholarly communication.
Plagiarism Screening
All manuscripts submitted to Thariqah Ilmiah: Jurnal Ilmu-ilmu Kependidikan & Bahasa Arab are subject to an initial plagiarism screening process before being considered for peer review.
The Editorial Team uses plagiarism detection software, such as Turnitin, to identify similarities between submitted manuscripts and previously published works. The similarity report is used as an evaluation tool by editors and does not serve as the sole basis for determining whether plagiarism has occurred.
Editors carefully examine similarity findings by considering legitimate overlaps, including properly cited quotations, references, common expressions, and standard research terminology. Manuscripts that contain substantial unattributed similarities, plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other forms of academic misconduct may be rejected or returned to authors for correction.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts represent original work and that all sources, ideas, data, and statements derived from other works are properly acknowledged through appropriate citation.
Editorial Responsibilities
The Editorial Board of Thariqah Ilmiah: Jurnal Ilmu-ilmu Kependidikan & Bahasa Arab is responsible for managing the editorial process fairly, objectively, and transparently. Editors evaluate manuscripts based on their academic contribution, originality, methodological quality, relevance to the journal’s scope, and potential contribution to the advancement of knowledge.
Editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by personal interests, institutional affiliations, political considerations, religious background, ethnicity, gender, nationality, or commercial interests.
Editors ensure that manuscripts submitted to the journal are treated confidentially and that information related to submissions is only shared with individuals involved in the editorial process, such as reviewers, editorial board members, and relevant publishing staff.
Editors are responsible for selecting appropriate reviewers, ensuring the quality of the peer-review process, responding to ethical concerns, and taking appropriate action when allegations of misconduct, errors, or violations of publication ethics arise.
Reviewer Responsibilities
Peer reviewers play an important role in maintaining the academic quality and integrity of Thariqah Ilmiah: Jurnal Ilmu-ilmu Kependidikan & Bahasa Arab. The review process is conducted to assist the Editorial Board in evaluating the quality, originality, relevance, and academic contribution of submitted manuscripts.
Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and scholarly evaluations based on their expertise. Reviews should focus on the content, methodology, clarity of presentation, theoretical contribution, and overall quality of the manuscript rather than personal opinions about the authors.
Reviewers should:
- accept review assignments only when the manuscript matches their area of expertise and they are able to complete the evaluation within the assigned period;
- provide comments and recommendations that can help authors improve the quality of their manuscripts;
- evaluate manuscripts fairly without considering the authors’ personal background, institutional affiliation, nationality, gender, religion, or other non-academic factors;
- maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and all information obtained during the review process;
- avoid using unpublished information, ideas, or data obtained through peer review for personal benefit or academic advantage;
- disclose any potential conflict of interest that may affect the objectivity of their evaluation and decline the review assignment when necessary;
- notify the editor if they identify substantial similarities between the submitted manuscript and other published works or suspect possible ethical violations.
All reviewer recommendations are considered by the Editorial Board in making publication decisions. However, the final decision regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection of a manuscript remains the responsibility of the Editor.
Author Responsibilities
Authors submitting manuscripts to Thariqah Ilmiah: Jurnal Ilmu-ilmu Kependidikan & Bahasa Arab are responsible for ensuring that their work meets academic, ethical, and publication standards.
Authors should ensure that submitted manuscripts:
- present original research or scholarly contributions that have not been published previously and are not under consideration by another journal;
- accurately describe the research process, findings, and interpretation of results;
- provide sufficient information regarding methods, data sources, and references to support academic verification and further research;
- acknowledge all sources, ideas, theories, and previous works that contribute to the development of the manuscript through appropriate citation;
- avoid all forms of academic misconduct, including plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, and inappropriate manipulation of citations.
